State Representative and small business owner, Matt Castlen, will run for the Senate seat of the retiring Senator Joe Bowen. Matt Castlen currently represents the 14th District which includes East Daviess County and Ohio County.

``There is no higher honor for me than to serve the people of the 14th District in Ohio County and Daviess County,`` said Castlen. ``I am running for the 8th district Senate seat to advocate for even more residents of Western Kentucky. As Senator, I will continue developing and implementing policies to make Kentucky a place of opportunity for everyone as I have during my first year in the House.``

Castlen continued, ``As I have traveled back and forth from Daviess County to Frankfort I have spent countless hours speaking with the people of District 14 about their concerns - jobs, the pension crisis, combating opioid addiction, and many other issues - and I am committed to working across party lines to find answers to these problems.``

Matt Castlen grew up working on the family farm in Daviess County. After graduating from Daviess County High School, Matt put his American Welding Society welding degree from Owensboro Community and Technical College to work welding in a shop in his backyard.

Matt is married to Laura and together they have two children. In 2009, Matt and Laura formed Castlen Steel. Since then, they have diversified and expanded their company to include a new 92-acre transloading facility on the former Green River Steel property on the Ohio River.

Castlen takes pride in being involved in the community. He currently serves as A Board Member for KY GO FAME, Community Board Member of Independence Bank, Member of the Huts for Haiti Mission Team, District 3 Representative for the Kentucky Corn Growers Association, and serves as a Deacon at Yellow Creek Baptist Church.
